Amy Adams Talks ‘The Master' On Letterman; New Clip Arrives
Amy Adams was the first from "The Master" crew to hit the talk show circuit with an appearance on Late Night With David Letterman last night where she discussed the film, her co-star Joaquin Phoenix who she called "awesome" and the "S" word. There was also a new never-before-seen 30 second spot during a commercial break and a short 30 second Adams-centric clip from the film which you can watch below. We'll update this post when we get the new commercial. (thanks to The Film Stage and Xixax for the videos.)
"The Master" plays the Venice Film Festival in 2 days so there should be plenty more reviews making their way online this weekend. Avert your eyes, spoiler-phobes. Don't forget to check our constantly updating release dates page for where and when you can see the film in 70mm and otherwise. And lastly, we've heard from many of our Australian readers eager to get the film in 70mm over there so if you'd like to lend a hand, please head over and sign their petition and perhaps the right people will take notice.

ReplyDeleteLol, Letterman is such a Fuck.
ReplyDeleteLetterman really is incredibly dumb. He's been hosting a talk show for decades and he can barely carry a coherent conversation.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if it's occurred to Harvey Weinstein, PTA, etc. that all these vague references to Scientology might even scare anti-Scientology people off. AA was so guarded in this interview that the uninitiated might misunderstand and conclude that The Master is some kind of Scientology recruiting movie.
ReplyDeleteI saw some people on the internet saying: "Oh, this movie looks awesome. But I found out it's about scientology. So disappointed."
DeleteBut it's not Weinstein's fault, it's just internet who decided to call The Master "the film about scientology."
Why do they waste so much time in the interview?! He doesn't take her seriously. Everything is just about him being an idiot. So frustrating. I can't believe he talks bad about Joaquin.
ReplyDeleteYeah. Joaquin Phoenix sort of pulled his leg a few years ago: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/02/11/joaquin-phoenixs-bizarre_n_166229.html? And Letterman hasn't forgotten, even though Mr. Phoenix apologized later.
DeleteWell, Dave was in on the plan. Casey was there with his crew documenting the footage for their movie I'm Still Here. If you see the movie, it's pretty clear that Casey and crew were everywhere filming. Letterman's writer also confirmed that Dave knew about Phoenix's "bizarre" appearance and he played along. I don't understand why Phoenix returned on the show and denied Dave's knowledge of the same.
DeleteI just saw the entire interview on YouTube and what's up with Letterman belittling Phil Hoffman? I know he might be still upset about the Joaquin "incident" but God, can't he keep it up with the name of the actors on the film?
ReplyDeleteThat's just Letterman's schtick. He often calls people who aren't on the show by the wrong name. I remember when Jimmy Fallon's show started Letterman made a crack "who's this new guy, Lonnie Donegan?!"
DeleteI came here to say "God, I really wish Letterman woulda fucking let Amy talk," but glad to see I've been preceded.
ReplyDeleteHi guys, the entire clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWsrK7nXsKg
ReplyDeleteWow. I didn't realize so many of PTA's fans were humorless. Not that it was a great Letterman interview or anything, but his whole schtick is the anti-talk show, the anti-conversation... he's supposed to be awkward and silly.... where have you people been for the last 30 years?
ReplyDeleteThat's the point, Austin. Letterman hasn't changed a bit in 30 years. He's just slower and more out of touch now.
DeleteGreat clip, really shows Amy's range and gives thought to who The Master really is. But I hate Letterman and always will. His awkwardness is so played out and wasn't funny the first time.
ReplyDeleteHopefully, we'll see Joaquin and Philip hitting the talk show circuit as well. Hopefully Paul will make a scheduled apperance, I know Jimmy Fallon and Jay Leno have had directors come on in the past.
But I wanna see them all on Conan, Daily Show, and Colbert. IMO, the best talk show hosts out there.
Letterman is the king! that's good TV! who else is gonna make a joke about Science all a gee on network TV like that?
ReplyDeleteLetterman was in on the Joaquin gag. I was there for the taping. It's not about that. Dave is just being Dave. Chillax to the max, peoples.
ReplyDeleteGosh, she looks so ... fuckable, hmmmm
