Well, looky here! With just under a month to before the Inherent Vice premiere, the New York Film Festival has just announced that Paul Thomas Anderson will be hosting the sixth edition of "On Cinema", a masterclass in which a filmmaker chooses film selections that they consider influential to their body of work and discusses how it's affected their approach to cinema. PTA's choices for this edition will not be revealed beforehand, but NYFF director Kent Jones assures us that they are "very surprising."
The event will be held on October 5th at 12:30pm at Alice Tully Hall, the day after Inherent Vice's world premiere in the same room. We do not yet know if the event will be recorded for later viewing.

You infer that PTA will be discussing multiple films, but the source infers it's just one film. Do we know for sure how many films he picked?
ReplyDeleteThe source "implies", you "infer". But looking at the NYFF site, it does sound like one individual film. That's what I infer, at least.
DeleteIt looks like some of the NYFF masterclasses from the last two years have been posted on youtube. Its possible that those of us who won't make it to the event will get the see it, eventually.
ReplyDeleteDespite this good news, can Inherent Vice AT LEAST just get a poster? It's already absurd that it doesn't have a trailer but why not just a POSTER?? This is getting ridiculous.

DeleteJust that PTA has worked with criterion. He has a blank page in their website. Criterion bought rights to all sony back titles. And they like to release blu rays to coincide with other releases whenever possible. So December release to coincide with inherent vice makes sense. This could all be bullshit as well
