Sasha Pieterse Joins Inherent Vice

Good afternoon

Today, via upandcomers.net, we can confirm, as some of you have long suspected, that Pretty Little Liars star Sasha Pieterse has joined the cast of Inherent Vice. With this casting, as well as the news of Yvette Yates and Hong Chau climbing aboard, it's hard not to observe that the film is developing a small subcast of young rising stars amongst the more seasoned screen veterans and it has us thrilled as hell.

Though we can't yet confirm which role Miss Pieterse will be taking, what we can do is drop some more set photos after the jump and let you Inherent Vice aficionados speculate wildly.

Stay tuned to Twitter and Facebook for the latest news and updates.
"The Master" is now available on Blu-ray and DVD

  1. Well if she's Japonica, then who's Jena Malone playing? And also, who's the actor playing Denis?

    1. Jena Malone would make a good Trillium Fortnight. I'm also curious about the actor playing Denis. He looks vaguely familiar but I can't put my finger on it.

  2. I'm quite certain that must be that scene with Blatnoyd (Short), Japonica (Pieterse), Denis and Doc in the car. They even sit at the same seats as described in the book.

  3. In the scene from chapter 11 Dr. Blatnoyd wears a velvet suit with wide lapels, Japonica wears a "psychedelic" mini dress. Japonica drives a decade old Mercedes sedan while Doc rides in the passenger seat, Denis rides behind Japonica, and Dr. Blatnoyd sits behind Doc, holding a bag which he stashes under Doc's seat.

  4. When Jena Malone's casting was first reported I immediately thought she was playing Hope Harlingen and didn't understand why people thought she was playing Japonica. The character was described as "a young woman who asks Doc for help". Hope seeks Doc out to find her husband. And Jena is 27 years old while Japonica is suppose to be like 16.

IMDb has Reese as Hope Harlingen but I'm not sure how accurate that is. My money's on Jena as Hope and Reese as Sloane Wolfmann.

    I wonder who's playing Penny.

  5. I agree about Malone in the Hope role. I'm pretty sure Reese will end up as Penny though. Sloane seems too minor. I think she's only in one scene in the book.

Other than Doc and Bigfoot, there aren't many other characters that show up in more than a scene or two. Coy is probably next. And then Sancho, Penny, Hope, Denis, and Jade are all about equal as far as how much they recur. Shasta and Mickey are mostly spoken about.

Obviously, that could all be thrown out the window if the scripts deviates much from the novel.

  6. perhaps Malone might assume the role of Sortilege...

  7. Yeah she has to be Japonica. The age is perfect. She is 17 and Japonica is 16. I'm glad because I like Jena Malone but thought she was totally wrong for the role.
