CJ -
good evening. it's been so long
and you've been so patient, thought
i'd fill you in on where we're
at with it now:
These shots include our lovely
Negative Cutter, Simone, imported
all the way from France to cut 65mm
negative. She does it all with a pair
of scissors from Staples.
I'll have more to share in the
coming days/weeks/months. Hope
you're well. Thank you for all the support.
See you soon.
paul.

And, because hitting CTRL + OPTION + APPLE + 8 takes alot of effort, I have close cropped the 65" filmstrip and reversed/color corrected it into an educated guess at the look. The image appears to be a Phil Hoffman as the Master.
So it seems the film is still being worked on, or these were archival images to get you pre-heated for whatever is dropping next, which you will find here first. Follow us on Twitter and we'll warn you ahead of time about things and reward you in various ways.
PTA knows his fans well. A 65mm filmstrip of his upcoming The Master may be the greatest first treat to this film imaginable.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. That Paul sure knows how to build the anticipation. I truly believe he knows exactly what he's doing with every aspect of this project. Can't wait! Cheers!
ReplyDeletethe dude also knows how not to ruin a trailer. kind of like stanley from the BX. remember that sneak trailer from TWBB when HW is just cutting DP's hair. It wasn't even part of the movie, it just gave you a taste. how many trailers do you see where after it you are like... don't need to see that now. most of them actually.
ReplyDeleteSo much for thinking it was gonna be in B&W. The production stills had me thinking that that was where he was going with it. Can't wait til the 12th!
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone like to know who is playing the bass???
ReplyDeleteI believe Anderson is using Kubrick's 65mm cameras from 2001 for this. Cannot wait for this film.
ReplyDelete"Kubrick's 65mm cameras from 2001" - no, simply Panavision's 65mm cameras - Mr. Kubrick did not own his own 65mm cameras, and had to rent through Samuelson's in London. Thomas, in70mm.com
DeleteSurely they are using the modern System 65 cameras, not the ancient rackover beasts.
DeleteHaha awesome. Anybody else see a little link between 'The Master' dancing and us being super-excited to see the first shot of the film? Think about it, aside from a release date and cast list, this is the first official ANYTHING we've gotten on the film. Kind of perfect, if you ask me. RIDICULOUSLY PUMPED
ReplyDeleteSadly, the silver screen has been looking pretty tarnished lately.. I simply can not wait for this film to polish it all up.
