MGM Boards PTA's High School Movie As Focus Pulls Out

Paul Thomas Anderson Returns with a 1970's High School Movie

Good Friday --

Some news trickled in over the last few days which we are regrettably late to report in on:

Per THR, Focus Features is no longer backing PTA's upcoming, as-yet-untitled high school movie due to budgetary constraints. The project has consequently moved over to MGM, but there are no further details about when it might actually take flight for obvious reasons.

The move, at the very least, confirms the film is still alive. Its road to theatres, unfortunately, remains anybody's guess.

We'll circle back when more information is made available. In the meantime, hope you're hanging in there.

Focus Features Launches Official Site For “Phantom Thread”

G’evening!

As we slowly close in on the release date of Paul Thomas Anderson’s eighth feature length motion picture, a project otherwise still shrouded in secrecy has at least settled on one thing: it is in fact, after all the pomp and circumstance, going to be called Phantom Thread. Since we were secretly rooting for this all along, the news definitely receives the C&RV stamp of approval.

No less revealing, the news of the title has been unveiled due to the official site for the movie being launched by Focus Features earlier today. You can visit that site by clicking here.

For now, other information about the status of the project on the site does not reveal much beyond what we already knew (its synopsis almost exactly matches the one Focus released when principal photography got underway earlier this year) but it does reaffirm a Christmas Day release, which some folks had been skittish about considering how tightly under wraps the film has been until now.

We can only guess this means more major info is on the precipice of dropping but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.

For now, the countdown continues to count down.

Special thanks to @j_shansky for helping on this one.

Focus Features Picks Up PTA's Fashion Film, Production to Begin Early Next Year

Via Deadline, Focus Features and Universal Pictures have secured international rights to Paul Thomas Anderson's forthcoming, still untitled fashion drama starring Daniel Day-Lewis!

The project is expected to start shooting early next year and release late next year, with Megan Ellison's Annapurna Pictures still on board to produce. The report also makes an update about the movie: it will actually be set in the 1950s fashion industry of London, rather than early reports stating it would be set in New York.

We're expecting news to start dropping a bit more precipitously now, so do keep checking back for more info as it becomes available. Folks... looks like this thing is really happening!
