WB Rolls Out Another New Banner For Ad Inherent Vice

Just slightly over a week after the powers that be at Warner Bros rolled out their first, extremely bitching banner advertisement for Inherent Vice, a new one has dropped.

It looks like they're pushing for a Thanksgiving-themed (albeit pizza-slinging) Last Supper type deal, capturing the spirit of this shot from earlier trailers:

If new banners keep poppin' up every couple weeks looking as rad as these two have, we could be very okay with it.

WATCH: 30 Minute Interviews With Brolin and Waterston on "Vice"

So far, Inherent Vice stars Josh Brolin and Katherine Waterston have sat down with David Poland for his (excellent) series DP30, where actors, filmmakers and artists get candid for 30 whole minutes, uncut, about their latest projects. The interviews embedded above are very illuminating. Spoilers are very minor in both cases. Nevertheless: watch at your own discretion. (Thanks @chambalvarado!)

Brolin, who has been among the most primary spokesmen for the film (even last year), also did a brief Google hangout with Gold Derby editor Tom O'Neil. It is generally spoiler-friendly as well:

Ace Hotel In LA To Host Early "Vice" Screening (Updated)

PHOTO: Lindsey Best

Well this is fun.

The Ace Hotel is downtown LA will be hosting an early screening of Inherent Vice on December 1. Wha's more, Ace staff has informed us that the hotel has an exclusive on extremely limited-edition vinyl pressings of Jonny Greenwood's score, which will be available in-room to hotel guests in the days leading up to the movie's nation-wide release in January. The records will also be made available in both Ace's New York and London locations, which will be hosting a Vice-themed gallery featuring original work from local artists, inspired by the movie. The records will be available in the London location at a later date.

We've amended our earlier post about the recently-revealed OST details to include the pretty slick album art of the soundtrack. Check it.

UPDATE: You can RSVP to the screening here.

NOTE: This post has been updated to reflect clarifications made by members of Ace Hotel's staff. Due credit, still, to the LA Times for bringing this development to the light of day.

Details For "Vice" Soundtrack Arrive; Social Media Rolls Out New Banner

This morning, social media outlets for Inherent Vice released the bad-ass banner advertisement seen above. The image seems to borrow the aesthetic presented in the new movie tie-in cover for the novel, with the various cast of characters mingling in the subject's wild hair. We have no word on whether or not the image will actually be a legitimate poster for the film, with prints for sale, or if it will be used only as an internet fixture. Either way, we can dig it.

In other news, The Playlist has obtained details regarding the release of the official Inherent Vice soundtrack, including a full tracklist. As suspected, the album will be much song-ier than PTA's two other collaborations with Jonny Greenwood, with the composer's original pieces for the film peppered in amongst the '60s music:
1. Shasta - Jonny Greenwood
2. Vitamin C - CAN
3. Meeting Crocker Fenway - Jonny Greenwood
4. Here Comes the Ho-Dads - The Marketts
5. Spooks - [unreleased Radiohead song]
6. Shasta Fay - Jonny Greenwood
7. Les Fleur - Minnie Riperton
8. The Chryskylodon Institute - Jonny Greenwood
9. Sukiyaki - KYU Sakamoto
10. Adrian Prussia - Jonny Greenwood
11. Journey Through the Past - Neil Young
12. Simba - Les Baxter
13. Under the Paving-Stones, the Beach! - Jonny Greenwood
14. The Golden Fang - Jonny Greenwood
15. Amethyst - Jonny Greenwood
16. Shasta Fay Hepworth - Jonny Greenwood
17. Any Day Now - Chuck Jackson
The soundtrack album will be released on December 15th of this year, coming just in time for Christmas. We will be sure to keep y'all updated when the official soundtrack album artwork finally drops.

UPDATE: Here is the suitably handsome artwork for the soundtrack album.

PTA To Present 35mm Screening of Robert Downey Sr.'s "Greaser's Palace" at Cinefamily

Just over a year ago, Paul Thomas Anderson presented a screening of Robert Downey Sr.'s 1972 Western Greaser's Palace at the Austin Film Festival with fellow filmmaker Jonathan Demme.

According to IndieWire, it appears PTA will be presenting another screening of the film next month, as part of a Downey retrospective being hosted by The Cinefamily in Los Angeles. Oh yeah, and it will be shown in 35mm.

PTA will also be engaging Downey in a Q&A on the movie as well and the evening will also involve a screening of one of Downey's more elusive works, Pound.

Things will start to get underway at 7:30pm on Saturday December 6th. You can find more info about the event, and the entire retrospective here.

WATCH: PTA Talks Mondo Hollywood & Inherent Vice with Robert Carl Cohen

Howdy

An excerpt of PTA's talk with Robert Carl Cohen at AFI Fest this last weekend has found its way online, and we have embedded it for your viewing pleasure. Thanks to Hector Andrade for hosting the vid, whose title does not lie; consider topics as colorful as the two notable films from the directors, and good old American ganja covered.

Enjoy.

AFI Adds PTA Talk; PTA Talks 'Vice' In LA Times; More

(PHOTO: Wally Skalij, Los Angeles Times)
Some news and some catch-up:

The powers that be over at AFI Fest, which will host the west coast premiere of Inherent Vice on Saturday, have revealed that PTA will be hosting a screening of the 1967 documentary Mondo Hollywood, and a Q&A with the film's director Robert Carl Cohen afterwords:
This underground cult classic documentary captures Hollywood at its most psychedelic, from 1965 to 1967. But this isn't a la-la-land we're used to seeing. Instead, it goes beneath the usual glitz and glamor and heads for the fringe, following everyone from would-be actors and models to politicians and even skydivers. The film's opening scene, which documents the original hippie-vegan Gypsy Boots exercising "Watusi-style" with stripper Jennie Lee under the HOLLYWOOD sign, perfectly nails the film's focus of, as Variety wrote in its 1967 review, "the Hollywood the public doesn't know." But plenty of Hollywood we do know also get their closeups: Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Sean Connery, Alfred Hitchcock, Sonny and Cher, Brigitte Bardot and even Bobby Beausoleil of the Manson Family make appearances. Paul Thomas Anderson has listed this film as a chief inspiration and influence on his latest film, INHERENT VICE, an AFI FEST Gala presentation. After the screening, Anderson will be in conversation with MONDO HOLLYWOOD director Robert Carl Cohen.
Tickets for the event, which will be held this Saturday, November 8th, at 1:30pm,  can be purchased here.

What's more, PTA was interviewed about Vice in the LA Times last week. Some highlights...
"He's on the case. And I don't know if he knows what the case is, but he's on it," explained Anderson. "So he's a puppy dog and a pit bull together. I like that a lot. I think he's desperate to find out what went wrong, not just with his own love life but with his country."
"Trying to make the movie feel how the book made me feel, or how Pynchon in general made me feel, there are many times where I feel lost, but never in a bad way," Anderson said. "If I'm participating with the book on its terms and it's not giving me what I want it to give me, then maybe that's on me. Maybe I just need to giggle and give in a little bit.
"It's like getting high and being nervous about it," he instructed. "Just enjoy the high. Just sit back and relax. Don't freak out."
...Almost as if the story had begun to exert a power of its own, he found himself propping up the novel with a cookbook holder and typing it out line by line into the form of a screenplay.
"The next thing you know, you're in love with the characters and it's got its hooks in you, and there's no turning back," he said. "Doc was a great character, and I have to believe that's probably the main thrust of it, parallel with just wanting to collaborate with a Pynchon book.
"Whatever book it was actually didn't so much matter. It was using his take on the world and working with that as a collaborator that was the most valuable."
There are some either nice comments from PTA in the article, which we recommend reading in its entirety here. Some small moments from the film are revealed in the piece, so if you want to go in super-duper fresh, read at your own discretion.

One other last thing is that the BAMcinématek in Brooklyn, NY will be hosting a (slightly) advanced screening on Inherent Vice on December 8th as part of their Sunshine Noir series. The film isn't listed yet, but you can take a peek at the good cinematic company it will keep here. (Such Vice influences as Jackie Brown, Repo Man, and The Long Goodbye will screen, as well as other gems like To Live and Die in LA, In a Lonely Place and Straight Time)

Whew. Think that's everything for now. We're already a mere five weeks from Inherent Vice becoming available to paying audiences in New York & LA. Now's the fun part.

UPDATE:
Here's some dessert for you. No explanation. If you have a free hour, just press play. (Thanks to @Zeekfizz for bringing it to our attention.)
