  2. Music in this trailer is very reminiscent of Gerald Busby's score for Robert Altman's 3 Women.

*I'm freaking out this movie seems to be brilliant.

  3. My goodness, if I didn't have commitments tonight, I would drive the 5 hours to Chicago and see this. I'm hoping this is the harbinger of a Midwest screening campaign that includes Cincinnati.

  5. I hear Aaron Copeland in this score -- so excited! How many days until it comes to Portland? Wow!

  6. Checked my inbox in the morning, email was sent 10 hours ago, tried to buy a ticket and it was already sold out.

  7. But still this is not the trailer which appeared before the Bourne Legacy & was detailed on the site (Amy Adams firing a rifle, banging on a window, etc.) When does that thing make it to the web?

  8. Is there an official confirmation of weather PTA was in fact there??

  9. Dear Cigs & Red Vines, where is your impression of the film????

  10. I was there and I can confirm PTA was in attendance. He was hanging out with fans outside the theater after the screening.

By the way, if any of you saw the trailers for Paranormal Activity 3 and then saw the movie, you know that they purposely put things in the trailers that weren't in the actual movie. The Master trailers seem to have taken a similar approach. (Amy Adams does not fire a gun in the movie, for one.)

    1. Dude, chill with the spoilers ... thx

    2. Lighten up, Francis.

Saying that a shot that is in the trailer isn't in the film. Is not a a spoiler.

    3. LOL IAN CHILL U FAGGOT. THATS NOT A SPOILER.

    4. If you consider that a spoiler, then I'm pretty sure any trailer for any movie should be considered giant spoilers.

By the way, I had the pleasure of being at the screening as well and the shot of two people jumping off a boat is not in the movie. That entire scene of Freddie and the army counselor guy from the first teaser is not in the movie. The shot of Freddie with his arm on a dresser and pointing a gun is not in the movie. The shot of Freddie hanging himself over the side of a boat above the water is not in the movie. The shot of Freddie walking around a corner and along the brick wall is not in the movie. The shot of Freddie waiting in a ditch and chasing a passing vehicle is not in the movie. Plus for a lot of the scenes that ARE in the movie, they used a lot of alternate takes for the trailers. So the experience of seeing the movie can actually be FRESH.

    5. Is the song "No Other Love" by Jo Stafford from the trailer in the actual movie?? I hope so

    6. Well it is on the soundtrack, so...

    7. It's weird and it scares me that all these great shots are not in the movie...

    8. I caught it in Chicago, and must reiterate (as this was true for me, and I would suppose for most others): This movie is not what you're expecting.

    9. If you want to know nothing, don't read. Which isn't to say there are Spoilers ahead, not exactly; just very Revealing Thoughts about The Master:

Paul's editor was the same as on Punch-Drunk Love (she also edited The Thin Red Line, which will make so much sense when you see The Master) and with this in mind it's no surprise that shots, scenes, perhaps whole sequences were committed to the cutting room floor.

What I struggle with, regarding the more significant omissions: Whether or not to count them as having existed, as a part of the world of the film, as moments we simply aren't shown in the limits of a motion picture's runtime... but that Exist. The teasers feel like poems, like bursts of memory, edited on an emotional through-line that evokes processing. They're examples of Remembered Experience, not True Experience; in this way, they're free to exist - and do - as very real, very humanly warped recollections. They seem like the refuse of Processing.

I wonder - and I'm reaching here - if we should feel free to misunderstand, misremember the picture. I've already built whole narratives of motivation that, until I see the film again, I won't be able to cement or scrap, and so in this way I've left the theater with a movie all my own. It's a unique sort of gift, and a lonesome one.

    10. Thank you, Zachary. I wonder: Is the movie as emotionally involving as for example the official trailer was?

    11. Thanks for feedback Zachary. I'd like to hear more. Can you rank the movie amongst his other films?

      Delete
    12. Oh yeah, it's very emotionally involving. Tonally, the trailer is pretty accurate.
One thing I really loved about the movie is that it's basically 70% psychological drama and 30% black comedy. One scene in particular had me laughing pretty hysterically.

    13. This sounds fantastic... the trailer is so f*ing touching, its unbelievable!

    14. Actually, two scenes in particular had me laughing pretty hysterically.

    15. Part of the shock of the film is that it resists ranking. It's capital 'd' Different -- from films in general, from Paul's in particular. It is very hard to practice patience with a thing like this, an immense film from an immensely important filmmaker, but I would urge anyone to quit reading reviews and reactions -- on which note, I'll quit revealing. Go in clean, and come awake.

    16. In my personal opinion, it's no There Will Be Blood (in my eyes, TWBB is one of the top five greatest movies ever made, so... that would be setting bar ridiculously high). But, it is a very, very, VERY good movie in and of itself. And as Zachary said, it's really hard to rank, ESPECIALLY having only seen it once. (Yes, you'll definitely need to see this movie more than once.) It all just feels very... new.

      Delete
    17. It doesn`t need to be another TWBB... in my opinion, Magnolia is better, but for me, Magnolia is the greatest movie ever made
