I recently moved from LA to Cincinnati. Any suggestions for finding out if The Master will be playing within a reasonable distance from me? I'm used to all the films I want to see coming to me, not the other way around.
ReplyDeleteI'm in Cincinnati too. Best bet locally is Esquire theatre, Mariemont theatre, or Kenwood theatre. They get hard to find movies more often than other theaters. They all use 4k digital projection which might be better than 35mm if 65mm is not available. I don't think there is a 65mm option for us locally. I'd bet Esquire gets it 1st. Also the AMC on the Kentucky side in New Port could be a wild card to get it 1st. Sometimes I drive to Indianapolis or Columbus as they sometimes get movies before us. That would be a 2 hour drive for either. Cleveland and Chicago are next closest after that at roughly 6 hours per drive and it looks like right now they are the closest cities on the list to be getting the movie for now.Cincinnati will get the movie but we probably won't get it early.
DeleteHey guys.
DeleteI'm based in Dayton, and The Neon Theater (http://www.facebook.com/neonmovies) has booked the film for September 21st. It's only an hour drive from Cincinnati. I'm waiting to hear back, but I suspect they will get a 35mm print.
As for 70: I understand the Wexner Center in Columbus has a 70mm projector - I haven't heard anything about them screening the film, but maybe farther down the line they'll get their hands on a 70 print.
Hope this helps!
Bad news, the Neon is going strictly digital. Their lack of willingness to play second run features and terrible selection of films mixed with the now digital only makes me never want to go again.
DeleteThis is really late, but the Wexner is now playing The Master in 70mm--June 6-8, 2013.

It's 1/9 for France. But 2013 so who cares ?
ReplyDeleteWe care! Do you have a source for that?
Deletesource: http://www.allocine.fr/film/fichefilm_gen_cfilm=176279.html
DeleteI do care too, I'm french and bitter. Source ! http://www.metrofilms.com/films/6699/the-master.html
ReplyDeleteYou don't need to mention that you're bitter; its implied.
DeleteLove the French, they have a tremendous filmaking tradition!
Ha!!
DeleteI work at Kendall Square Cinema in Boston and I know we're getting The Master September 21st.
ReplyDeleteI'll be in Boston, so Hopefully that's true..... Will you guys show it in 70mm?
DeleteKendall definitely doesn't have 70mm :(
DeleteThere are rumors The Coolidge can project 70mm but I haven't heard anything official about it. Even if it does, Coolidge usually gets things after Kendall, unfortunately.
I saw a 35mm presentation of “Beasts of the Southern Wild” at Kendall Square; it was amazing. Great theatre.
DeleteSo excited, I plan on being at Kendall that night :)
DeleteGreat news! I wouldn't be surprised if it opened in 2 or 3 Boston theaters on the 21st. Probably AMC Boston Common (19 screens), Coolidge Corner, and Kendall Square. Then if we're lucky, it'll expand a bit (Waltham, West Newton, Lexington, Woburn).
DeleteCoolidge Corner should show this in 70MM first! Or at the same time at least!
DeleteSo excited that I will be in Boston that week!!!
DeleteIt's playing 70mm in Boston at the Coolidge Corner!
Deletehttp://www.coolidge.org/content/master
It says they will play it in 70mm for at least 3 weeks, so go get your tickets. Already bought mine : )
Film is scheduled to play at the Embarcadero in San Francisco starting September 21st.
ReplyDeleteAnybody know about Pittsburgh, PA? I've contacted every theatre, no luck. But i'm 100% positive that it's not going to be 70mm.
ReplyDeleteIt's scheduled to open in Cedar Lee theatre in Ohio on 9/21. Landmark E Street, Besethea Theatres, and East Five will all be getting it the 21.
When I spoke to them, they said the 14th is New York/LA only, with the 21st expanding to 15 additional markets.
Who did you speak to?
DeleteThe Landmark facebook page. I'll post a link to the facebook conversation
Deletehttps://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Landmark-Theatres/7825494345
This is just the landmark facebook page, but you'll find the conversation.
here's the cedar lee facebook, the conversation is on the side. Also, the website lists it as coming soon.
Deletehttps://www.facebook.com/#!/cedarleetheatre
Is the Embarcadero 70mm?
ReplyDeleteThe Embarcadero is only playing it in 35mm. But it looks like The Castro will have it in 70mm. They had an early screening of TWBB there before, Paul loves it there.
DeleteCastro is a gorgeous theatre complete w/ Wurlitzer organ!
DeletePHILIPPINES? there are cinephiles across the world. please show the film THIS YEAR. not NEXT YEAR.
ReplyDeleteWhat about NYC? Any ideas where they would play it in full 70mm?
ReplyDeleteHell yea The Master is coming to Baltimore!! I seriously thought this theater was a very, very long shot! Words cannot express how excited I am!!
ReplyDeleteRelease in Switzerland (German Speaking Part) is 1/10!
ReplyDeleteSource: http://outnow.ch/Movies/2012/Master/
Damn! Have to wait till November.
ReplyDeleteYou could be french.
DeleteAMC Theatres will in fact not be showing it in 70mm
ReplyDeletehttps://www.facebook.com/#!/amctheatres/posts/10150966614367413?notif_t=feed_comment
You have "The Ritz Five" listed under Washington DC - do you mean the Landmark-owned Ritz Five in Philadelphia?
ReplyDeleteyes when i talked to landmark they mentioned the ritz five
Deletethat's a shame. I might be boycotting this. The Ritz Five is the worst of the Ritzes. I hoped that it would at least be at the Ritz East or a decent AMC where even if it wasn't full 70mm it would at least look good. Now I know the sound will be muffled and the image will be compressed to heck. Well, that's the last straw.
DeleteOmaha's Film Streams will be showing The Master starting September 21!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.filmstreams.org/filmstreams_calendar.aspx?ID=994
According to Dave, the manager of the Esquire Theater in Denver, they will be showing "The Master" in 35mm on 9/21. He aid they do not have the capabilities to show 70mm either :-(
ReplyDeleteplz plz plz get them to do a 70mm showing in portugal!! very unlikely but plz do it!
ReplyDeleteAny chance there's a way of finding out if the film will be premiering in New Orleans on the 9/21? Or afterwards?
ReplyDeleteThis is so annoying I was really excited that the Master was being bumped up to September only to find out that in London it comes out in November anyway...
ReplyDeletehttp://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/movies/ct-mov-0817-talking-pictures-20120817,0,6243117.column
ReplyDeleteIn this article by Michael Phillips, he states that the Weinstein Company is planing a 800 screen debut for the Master, bigger than 'King's Speech' and 'the Artist'. who knows what to make of this, but just thought I'd include the article.
What about the Dallas/Fort Worth area?
ReplyDeleteit will play in a very scratched print at the angelika(s). duh.
DeleteLol anonymous is right. Angelika is our only option except Texas Theatre and Magnolia. Angelika films are grainy and terrible but have a great collection still.
DeleteHeights Theater in Minneapolis has a 70MM projector. I'm hoping the Weinstein Company offer them a print to run...http://www.heightstheater.com/equipment.cfm
ReplyDeleteWhy does Argentina and Chile get a release in November but not Brazil? Damn you, universe...
ReplyDeleteAccording to "FILME B", The Master will be released in Brazil in January 25, 2013. No information about 70mm prints though.
DeleteThe Drexel Theatre in Columbus, OH is listing as getting "The Master" on 9/21. No 70MM though... :'-(
ReplyDeleteHey, any word if the 70mm print is coming to Vancouver? And thanks for constantly keeping me updated on "The Master", excellent work.
ReplyDeleteanyone have any info on indianapolis yet and whether it will be in 70 mm?
ReplyDeleteAny news on a Florida release yet? I live in the middle of no-where Florida which I know won't get the film. But I'll drive out of town for The Master. There Will Be Blood and Magnolia were out of body experiences the first time I saw them. Love Paul's work
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know when NYC tickets will be available? Should we just start calling theaters with 70mm screens?
ReplyDeleteCouldn't get it to The Fox in Atlanta, GA, eh?
ReplyDeleteSad times.
This is an excellent idea!! Please?
Deleteor the tara?! im dying to see this!
DeleteIt'll be at the Tara on the 21st.
DeleteTara is all digital now.
DeleteCastro Theater is TONIGHT
ReplyDeleteWhich Seattle theater is playing 70mm (I'm assuming Cinerama but they have nothing on their site)?
ReplyDeleteI've been assuming Cinerama as well. Been meaning to call them and ask.
DeleteSaw Samsara today (at Cinerama) and they had the trailer beforehand. I assume they'll have it. (There were no other trailers, seems unlikely they'd show it otherwise).
DeleteI was thinking the same thing, since they're only playing the trailer for The Master before Samsara at Cinerama.
DeleteWhen will we know what the "15 Additional" are?
ReplyDeleteIt's highly doubtful Kansas City will be seeing "The Master" early or in 70mm. But, I'm really hoping we're in the lucky 15 on Sept. 21! Theaters don't seem to know anything at this point. Any idea? Or, is a road trip to Omaha suggested!?
ReplyDeleteRoad trip to Omaha ... I haven't had any luck getting in touch with anyone from the fine arts theatre group who owns Glenwood and Englewood, both 70mm. And as AMC is not showing in 70mm it's pretty much a bust at this point.
Deletefine arts group owners are not interested in showing 70mm. If you live in the area, I would urge you to try and convince them, there's still time!
DeleteCan confirm that the Leawood indeed wont be showing it on their working 70mm projectors but just digitally at the Rio
DeleteAlamo Drafthouse in KC just tweeted me that they'll have it on the 21st - but in 4K though, not 70mm...
ReplyDeleteGrrr.
DeleteNothing in Nashville? Why does Nashville always get boned?
ReplyDeleteA few others to add on Sept 21:
ReplyDeleteSan Francisco: Sundance Kabuki (Source: https://www.sundancecinemas.com/coming_soon.html)
Columbia, MO: Ragtag Cinema (Source: http://ragtagfilm.com/films.php?id=526)
The fact that it's playing a town as small as Columbia makes me think that the roll-out on the 21st will certainly be larger than 15 markets.
I'm in Nashville too. I remember seeing an instagram of a coming coon poster and someone said Green Hills. It was on this website somewhere. I don't know why its not up here though. Maybe Belcourt has a 70mm?
ReplyDeleteNashville times three! I've seen the poster downstairs at Green Hills, but it took a while for There Will Be Blood to show up there. From Belcourt's site - "Screening Formats: 35mm, 16mm, DVD, BluRay, DigiBeta." Damn.
ReplyDeleteWell. At least we will get to see it. I figured it would show up there. I saw A Serious Man there a few years ago and that had a similarly small distribution.
ReplyDeletehttps://twitter.com/AFISilver
ReplyDeleteAFI SILVER IN Maryland will be showing it in 70mm evening ONLY. Matinees are 35mm
Man can't wait to hear when 70mm will be coming to NYC. hope they don't make us wait too long? I'm so antsy to see this.
ReplyDeleteI saw a "The Master" poster at the AMC Alderwoodin Lynnwood, WA last night, and a special label on the poster said it would be having exclusive screenings starting Sept. 14th
ReplyDeleteHi Ethan,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your interest in our theatres! Was there a particular location you were asking about? We are opening THE MASTER at several locations on 9/14 and most likely showing it in 70mm exclusively at the Village East Cinema.
Thanks!
Rachel
woohoo!
DeleteHas anybody called or emailed Clearview or the Ziegfeld directly about The Master playing at Ziegfeld in 70?
ReplyDeleteI called Ziegfeld on they said they'll know by Wednesday. Hopefully they meant this Wednesday. Regardless, I'm still calling Ziegfeld back on Wednesday the 29th.
DeleteThanks for that. I tried calling a couple weeks ago and the guy I spoke to essentially acted like it wasn't even on his radar. Please let us know what they say.
DeleteThis is what bothers me about Weinstein indie release. On the Fox Searchlight page, they have each theatre and what date. I heard the Village east in NYC is showing it in 70mm opening weekend. Hopefully tix will be up soon, because I'm planning a trip and can't wait for it to sell out.
ReplyDeleteIs the Village East Cinema sold out? Or hasn't been on sale yet?
ReplyDeleteNot on sale yet.
ReplyDeleteWhen I spoke to Tyler at Village East Cinemas, he indeed confirmed they will be showing it in 70mm September 14th, but he thinks just for the first week or so. But very helpful and nice staff.
ReplyDeleteIs this a good cinema with 70mm?
http://manorpgh.com/comingsoon.php
ReplyDeleteThe Manor theatre in Squirrell Hill, Pittsburgh, PA will be showing it September 21. Says nothing about 70mm, but I rruly doubt it because they only show digital.
I'm a huge PTA fan from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I'll be in Miami the week of sept 21st. Is there a chance I can catch the movie? and any chances of a 70mm screening, anyone knows?
ReplyDeletelove the site, thanks
It's playing at the Regal South Beach 18 on Lincoln Road (regmovi.es/QA1cno), but not in 70mm :(
DeleteWhen will the Village East Cinema tickets be available for purchase?
ReplyDeleteWhen i asked the dude over the phone said in a few weeks and i called thursday
ReplyDeleteIt's on the Regal Cinemas Fox Tower 10 schedule in Portland for 9/21 but no word on 70MM :(
ReplyDeleteIs that near China Town? I'm thinking the Hollywood should show this in 35mm! Thanks in advance
DeleteAnywhere in Georgia or Florida?
ReplyDeleteYes, please bring to GA kthxbye
DeleteI'm a manager at an AMC in Manhattan, and I know many of the union technicians and managers at other theatres, and while I don't have a specific source I can cite, I've been told that union projectionists have been contacted about running 70MM prints at AMC Lincoln Square, City Cinemas 123, Village East and possibly the Ziegfeld. I can confirm Lincoln Square will have it in 70MM for 3 weeks, as this booking appears on our company Rentals/Screenings Report.
ReplyDeleteZiegfeld will not be showing it. Also, I called lincoln square and the lady over the phone had no idea what The Master even was.
DeleteTrust me, it'll be there in 70MM (Lincoln Square). I've been in this business for 8 years and one of the many things I've learned is...just because a person works at a movie theatre, doesn't mean they know the first thing about movies.
DeleteDamn, I am a bit jealous of moviegoers in New York/LA right now.
DeleteIt is really something that the AMC Lincoln Square, a theater that to the best of my knowledge, went all-digital last year, is getting a 70mm engagement of "The Master". Yet AMC couldn't install a 70mm projector at a theater like the 600 N. Michigan here in Chicago.
Looks like I'll have to settle for 4k digital, or a 35mm print at the Landmark Century.
According to the Clearview Cinemas website, The Master is opening at the Ziegfeld in 70mm on Sept. 21.
DeleteRochester, NY on 9/21
ReplyDeletehttps://thelittle.org/comingSoon.php
Hi, I'm from Chile and the release of "The Master" was already changed... It won't open November 15th... The distribution company postponed it until awards season, probably february :(
ReplyDeleteZiegfeld in 70mm starting 9/21 in NYC.
ReplyDeleteSource: http://clearviewcinemas.com/ziegfeld.asp
aside from the US cities listed are there any more?
ReplyDeleteNorfolk, VA at the Naro on 9/21
ReplyDeletehttp://narocinema.com
I'm hearing it's getting a wide release on the 21st. Has anyone else heard this? Does that mean as many as 1,000 screens or more?
ReplyDeleteIt's playing Sept. 14 at the Angelika in Plano, TX. http://www.angelikafilmcenter.com/angelika_comingSoon.asp?hID=8774&page=COMING%20SOON
ReplyDeleteThe Master is playing at the Sun Ray Cinema in Jacksonville, FL starting Sept 21. This is the first screening in Florida I have seen, but I will keep looking.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.sunraycinema.com/upcoming-shows/
Thanks!!!! if you find out there's a Miami screening please post it here!
ReplyDeleteI'm luckily going to be in NY on the 14th..
DeleteSo, I'll be able to attend a screening of it at the Lincoln Center.
But, I'm sure I'm going to want to invite my friends to see it; once I'm back in Miami.
So, please let us Miamians know if it does play in 70mm down here..
which theater in NYC is the best place to watch the film you think?
ReplyDeleteSooo happy there's finally a date for Mexico! Crossing my fingers so hard so it won't be postponed until "awards season" (which was the case for TWBB….)
ReplyDeleteOpens in 35mm in San Diego on 9/21 at Landmark Hillcrest and Landmark La Jolla Village.
ReplyDeleteAny word on Arizona? Pretty sure Harkins Theatres have a 70mm projector.
ReplyDeleteOpens September 28 at the Park Theatre in Vancouver. Not sure if it will be 70mm. They used to show 70mm films there years ago.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.festivalcinemas.ca/
Apparently they don't even screen 35mm anymore. It'll be DCP.
Deleteit'll be in 4K at Scotiabank Vancouver!
DeleteI highly doubt any Harkins theatre has 70mm. I'm pretty sure the only 70mm capable theatre in the valley was the original Cine Capri. I would love to eat my words, though. But I think the only chance of seeing it in the Phoenix metro area on the 21st would be Camelview projected digitally.
ReplyDeleteSupposedly for the openings of the new Cine Capri theaters they showed Star Wars in 70. That's what was reported. Anyhow, I would write their customer service and request it. Can't hurt!
DeleteI do know that at one time the Camelview's mini Cine Capri had 70mm capability.... It may no longer.
DeleteDoes anyone know of a release date in Korea? Or how I could go about finding out? Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHEY NEW YORK FOLKS. SOME PEOPLE ON TWITTER/FACEBOOK ETC SEEMED TO BE (LIKE ME) CONFUSED ABOUT TUESDAY NIGHT'S SCREENING OF THE MASTER AT THE GRAND ZIEGFELD THEATER IN NEW YORK CITY.
ReplyDeleteTHE ANNOUNCEMENT VIDEO FOR THE SCREENING LISTED A 9PM SHOWTIME WHILE MOVIETICKETS.COM LISTED 7:30PM WHEN YOU PURCHASED YOUR TICKETS.
I HAVE SPOKEN TO THE BOX OFFICE AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT THE MOVIETICKETS.COM LISTING IS THE CORRECT ONE. THE MASTER WILL SCREEN AT 7:30 PM AT THE ZIEGFELD THIS TUESDAY.
HOPE THAT CLEARS UP THE CONFUSION FOR YOU FOLKS.
ALSO, SORRY ABOUT ALL CAPS BUT I AM WORKING IN AVID AT THE MOMENT AND WAS TOO LAZY TO TOGGLE IT OFF. APOLOGIES FOR THAT.
Is it too late to try and get it my city? Cincinnati has a 70mm cinema. I'd love to try and bring it here, but I'm afraid it's too late. Any idea if it's worth trying?
ReplyDeleteApparently The Landmark 12 in Los Angeles will be showing The Master in both 70 mm and DCP, starting September 14. Tickets are now selling for the weekend of the 14th. I'm not sure how to tell whether individual screenings are in 70 mm or DCP.
ReplyDeleteScroll down the following page about half way to find the announcement.
http://www.landmarktheatres.com/market/losangeles/losangeles_frameset.htm
The Master will be in West Michigan on the 21st. No idea if it is in 70mm or not.
ReplyDeletehttps://celebrationcinema.com/movie/Master%2c+The/9-21-2012
Ain't that some s#!t. The Landmark 12, an all digital theater, installed 70mm to play "The Master". Yet I can't think of Landmark, or anyone else doing the same here in Chicago.
ReplyDeleteI pray to G-d that Landmark is just pulling my chain, because shame on them if they're not installing 70mm at the Century Centre.
It will be at the Landmark River Oaks in Houston and the Landmark Magnolia in Dallas on the 21st.
ReplyDeleteFor those in the Phoenix area, Harkins has listed on their website that it will begin on the 21st at several of their theaters. Unfortunately, though, they're probably all DCP. So far, they have Arrowhead, Chandler Fashion, Christown and San Tan Village confirmed with possibly more revealed later. It will also be playing at the 11 screen Harkins theater in Flagstaff.
ReplyDeletethey're also having midnight premieres on the 20th.
DeleteWrite them and request they play it in 70!!!
DeleteJust talked to Harkins guest services and they said the only 70mm projector they have is the 15/70 at AZ Mills IMAX. All the other locations are entirely digital. :(
DeleteDoes anyone have information on the Las Vegas, NV market? I haven't seen releases for it anywhere, especially not in 70 mm. My boyfriend has been following this film for a long time and will be crushed if he can't see it here! Any news?
ReplyDeleteAny info on how long they will be showing the 70mm in NY? Ill be there by the ond of the month.
ReplyDeleteI live in India. I will not get to see 'The Master' in theaters. Life sucks.
ReplyDeleteUptown theater, Minneapolis, MN will be showing the Master (35mm) 4+ times a day for at least a week starting Friday 9-21-12.
ReplyDeleteAnybody know of any Portland OR engagements?
ReplyDeleteI'll just have to see it in whatever way it comes to Vermont or New Hampshire. I guess so. Hope it lives up to the things my family experienced with good old LRH. I was one of the first Dianetics children and later my father had a "falling out' with Hubbard et al... big lawsuits, we were cut off from all our friends. Nice people. More to it than that, too...
ReplyDeleteYou might want to add Israel to your international dates list- it is being released there tomorrow, October 4th, but the Annapurna site mistakingly lists the date as April 10th. Unfourtanatly, there won't be any 70mm screenings, since there are no cinemas in Israel with 70mm projectors... :(
ReplyDeleteCastro Theater is evening Free Business Cards
ReplyDeletewhen is it releasing in India(Hyderabad specially). Please let us know. I am dying to watch this film.
ReplyDeleteany word or idea if/ when this will be playing in Vienna, Austria?

ReplyDeleteWhich methons do you use to find information for your future posts, which search algorithms or techniques do you generally utilize?
ReplyDeleteI'm dying to see this movie but can't find it playing in Miami or Ft Lauderdale, FL..wanted to see it tonight..HELP PLEEZ!
ReplyDelete"The Master" is expected to open in Venezuela on February 25th. Can't say how many copies are going to be available, but to even dream of having it in 70mm is a futile desire! I refuse to see this film on home video first.
ReplyDeleteThe Master is released in Russia on February 14 (75 prints)
