G’evening!
As we slowly close in on the release date of Paul Thomas Anderson’s eighth feature length motion picture, a project otherwise still shrouded in secrecy has at least settled on one thing: it is in fact, after all the pomp and circumstance, going to be called Phantom Thread. Since we were secretly rooting for this all along, the news definitely receives the C&RV stamp of approval.
No less revealing, the news of the title has been unveiled due to the official site for the movie being launched by Focus Features earlier today. You can visit that site by clicking here.
For now, other information about the status of the project on the site does not reveal much beyond what we already knew (its synopsis almost exactly matches the one Focus released when principal photography got underway earlier this year) but it does reaffirm a Christmas Day release, which some folks had been skittish about considering how tightly under wraps the film has been until now.
We can only guess this means more major info is on the precipice of dropping but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.
For now, the countdown continues to count down.
Special thanks to @j_shansky for helping on this one.

I feel like the title is miss a "the".
ReplyDeleteIt's actually just called Christmas.
ReplyDeleteGive us the trailer already god damn it! Only eight more weeks to go.
ReplyDeleteSo happy they're doing this for The Christmas!
ReplyDeleteWe are all excited… The man has only made one bad film in his career. Most of his movies are masterpieces. Let’s hope he’s back on track.
ReplyDeleteThink u should revisit that 'bad' one. U might find it's quite good!
DeleteWhich was the bad film?
ReplyDeleteSorry Matthew… “Inherent vice” is a huge misstep. it does not work on any level. It’s so bad it’s almost an embarrassment. Even The editing sucks. I mean… This is coming from the man who made “there will be blood“ which is probably the best American movie since the godfather.
ReplyDeleteExplain yourself further!
DeleteLet me tell you about INHERENT VICE ... it might be the best movie ever. It is so low key, and so awful in so many places. But there are so many scenes and lines and performances and musical spots that are just ace! And the fact of the matter is, PTA does such a masterful job of diffusing people’s expectation after this masterwork. To overextend the Kubrick comparison, it’s like BARRY LYNDON but set on the beach. With Martin Short. Fuck!
ReplyDeleteI feel like Inherent Vice is a silly, heartfelt The Big Sleep in the sixties...with Martin Short. Haha. I can honestly pop it on anytime.
ReplyDeleteYour blogs and its stuff magnetize me to return again n again.
