TERRIBLE music aside, An
updated version of the cool little video from the Inherent Vice set has just popped up on youtube, allowing us our first glimpse of Doc Sportello in motion. The music has been swiped, and it's over two full minutes longer than the version that dropped a few days ago. These changes mean that you can faintly hear Paul calling "cut" at the beginning of the clip, see him directing a bit more clearly around the 1:20 mark, and actually watch a take happen (from afar - no spoilers) towards the end of the thing, not to mention all the other fun stuff we saw in the earlier version, like Joaquin interacting with Jordan Christian Hearn, who will be playing Denis in the film, and, most amusingly, his cigarette-henchman at 0:55. Have a peek!

DeleteI actually like the music it creates a cool atmosphere. I have had the soundtrack to Inherent Vice as its listed on amazon on my ipod for months now and I have been listening to it over and over... and over. I hope Paul keeps it all because the music is soo good and fitting
ReplyDeleteI'm sure he will keep some of it but music selection has often been a big way for PTA to express himself. Betting he will have at least a few less commercial songs of his own choosing from the era in there.

Very 60s surfer and I can picture some sweet psychadelic scenes to that song and a lot of the music. The book has 3 or 4 beach boys songs too which really help to push that 60s surfer feel

ReplyDeleteMaybe it's just Joaquin being Joaquin but it looks like he's in character off-camera. Pretty cool to see how that works. Always wanted to see a visualization of what DDL is so famously like on a movie set when the camera isn't rolling. Haven't seen that yet but this is kinda cool though.

DeleteThe area where they're filming looks exactly like the rows of houses shown in the Pynchon-narrated Inherent Vice video. I wouldn't be surprised, really.
ReplyDeleteIt was filmed in Manhatten Beach in the very same area Pynchon lived in 1969-1970. It's around the corner from that surf club. They were scouting the location a couple of months ago.

Deleteyes maybe it's a wrap for the los angeles area of shooting...they might go to vegas next since there are some major scenes in the book and then come back to california
DeleteWilson is already done and I think so is Brolin, at least mostly. Brolin might still have a couple of things left. Del Toro had only three days of filming and is probably done, since they already filmed in the marina (the boat stuff) and one of his scenes was there. All the Sashta Fay stuff was filmed the two weeks after she was cast. I don't think Penn is in the film. I think Witherspoon is the only big name left. She's doing a nude scene, BTW.
