EXCLUSIVE: Kevin J. O'Connor To Re-Team With ‘The Master' Co-Star Joaquin Phoenix For ‘Inherent Vice'
Chicago-born character actor Kevin J. O'Connor has been kicking around Hollywood for quite some time and along the way has racked up an impressive resume working with the likes of Francis Ford Coppola, Robert Altman and of course, Paul Thomas Anderson. PTA cast the chameleon-like O'Connor in his last two films as a character who is eventually beaten mercilessly by the leading man (alternately Daniel Day-Lewis and Joaquin Phoenix). Why do we bring this up? Well, we have received word that O'Connor is set to re-team with PTA once again to film an as yet unspecified role in "Inherent Vice" where the actor will join the esteemed ranks of John C. Reilly, Philip Baker Hall and Luis Guzmán in the PTA Three-Timers Club. For those who have read the book, do you have any guesses for who O'Connor might be playing (and does that character at some point get beaten within an inch of their life)? Leave your guesses in the comments. Filming on 'Vice' is set to get underway later this month so there should be lots more casting announcements to come. And if you're involved with the production, why don't you drop us a line?
Stay tuned to Twitter and Facebook for the latest news and updates.
"The Master" is now available on Blu-ray and DVD.

No surprise here. Still eagerly awaiting casting news for the bigger roles and potential first-time PTA collaborators. It's always so exciting to see what new talent he reels in for each of his films
ReplyDeleteMy guess is Denis pronounced like Penis.
ReplyDeleteMy guess: Sauncho
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think he's going to be playing Denis the Penis as well. Even though Kevin's a lot older than the character was in the book, I can see him playing that sad sack so well.
ReplyDeleteHe would make a perfect Einar
ReplyDelete^This.^ Einar is the only character in the book I can see O'Connor really fitting.
ReplyDeleteRudy Blatnoyd. Dies in a terrible trampoline accident.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read the book but I was somewhat let down when I saw the names of John C. Reilly, Luis Guzman and the great Philip Baker Hall only to find that with J. O'Connor in the cast it would simply add to PTA's "three timer's club" - I would really like to see all three of those actors join INHERENT VICE :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I really can't see Denis. I mean I'm not saying O'Connor can't be funny, but 'high' funny is much more difficult to pull off and I think it would make more sense to have a much younger actor to be paired with Joaquin.
ReplyDeleteI can definitely see Einar though.
Could def see Einar.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Coy Harlingen? Is he too old for that? I could see it. Character is mysterious and brooding. Has a unique relationship with Doc.
Way too old for Coy.
DeleteHopefully he gets slapped around a little. That would him 3 for 3 of getting beat up.
ReplyDeletecoy harlingen for sure
ReplyDeleteAlso, following up on the Coy Harlingen idea, there is a scene where he kind of gets his ass kicked. A little background, Harlingen's character is central to the plot. He was a sax player in a surf band who disappears and his disappearance, as you might expect, ends up being related to the central mystery of the novel, The Golden Fang.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, Doc ends up having a number of odd chance encounters with the guy, and in one of them, Doc sees him on TV disrupting a Nixon rally, which he is then dragged out of, presumably by secret service agents as Nixon quips, "better get him to a hippie drug clinic."
Again, no idea if this is his O'Connor's role, just pointing out that if it is, he potentially will get his ass kicked yet again.
no way he is coy since in a few days robert pattinson will be confirmed for that role
ReplyDeleteSoo, what happened to this? Owen Wilson is playing Coy.
DeleteWhoah, is that legitimate?
ReplyDeleteWasn't there some Pattinson speculation posted a few weeks ago? Hanging out with Joaquin somewhere or something? And Vince Vaughn right?
ReplyDeleteI tried to reach you, but the email bounced back. We start filming in two weeks.

DeleteWould love to talk to you tonight if you can get in touch.
Thanks!
My guess is Coy Harlingen.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't surprise me if David Warshofsky has a role too.
ReplyDeleteThere was speculation about Pattinson, it may have started here. I noticed this and had had some thoughts myself about what he might do next after his schedule just recently opened up. I posted this at my 'Cosmopolis' film blog (Pattinson's last film with David Cronenberg; Maps To The Stars is next in July.) Cigsandredvines tweeted the link at the time. http://tinyurl.com/cmq2gvz Guess we'll know soon enough of full casting; it shaping up to look fantastic! ~BuckyW
ReplyDeleteCoy!
ReplyDeleteGuess: Detective Christian "Bigfoot" Bjornsen.
ReplyDeleteKevin J.O'Connor is a very underrated actor and am pleased to hear he has a role in this.
ReplyDeleteWow nice pics...
ReplyDeleteBoth are looking good together...
