LISTEN: PTA Chats With The Safdie Brothers on A24 Podcast

Good afternoon -

Forgive our tardiness on posting this puppy. Hustle-bustle of the holidays blah blah blah.

Anyway, PTA sat down with Benny & Josh Safdie for the A24 podcast in support of their new film Uncut Gems. The anticipated flick is as-yet-unseen by yours truly, so the convo has not been vetted for spoilers or general terrain that is covered.

Nevertheless!

Focus Features Reteaming with PTA For High School Flick

Hello!

Per Deadline today, Paul Thomas Anderson is receiving backing from Focus Features for his forthcoming, untitled, high school-set 9th feature. It marks back-to-back collaborations for PTA and Focus, as they also pitched in for 2017's Phantom Thread.

It sounds like the project is quickly taking shape, with PTA already securing a tax credit from the state of California for production of the picture.

Perhaps most worth noting from today's news is that Deadline states production for the film is looking closer to a Spring or Summer 2020 start date, as opposed to the early 2020 time frame that had been initially reported. One would think this rules Untitled High School Movie out for a 2020 release entirely, but who's to say.

Talk soon!

PTA To Return To 1970s San Fernando Valley For Untitled High School Movie

Good morning, indeed!

Today's the day.

The Hollywood Reporter reports this morning that Paul Thomas Anderson has lined up his ninth feature film to begin production in early 2020

The as-of-yet-untitled picture is said to be centered around a child actor-cum-high school student in the San Fernando Valley in the 1970s, marking a return to a place and period PTA has covered so fondly and well over the years.

This tidbit from THR's story is notable as well:

Sources say casting is underway to find the lead and the project features a multitude of roles and could be ensemble in nature or have intersecting storylines.
More details will be dropped here as they are available.

Good morning, indeed!

Leonardo DiCaprio Reportedly Turned Down New PTA Project For Guillermo Del Toro

*tap tap* This thing on?

Hullo!

We're baaaaaack, and with some intriguing news. Earlier this week, Variety reported that Leonardo DiCaprio has signed on to star in Guillermo Del Toro's upcoming Nightmare Alley.

Some subsequent reporting by THR's Borys Kit has revealed that, in order to work with Del Toro on the picture, Leo had to turn down a reunion project with his Revenant director Alejandro G. Iñárritu and a mysterious project from the man himself!

The reporting goes no further than that single tidbit, and the Phantom Thread press tour was the first instance in recent memory where PTA openly suggested he was confident in the next movie he'd make, but still, it appears the project may actually be close to taking flight!

More details will be served to you as soon as we have them!

6/14 UPDATE: Variety now reporting that Bradley Cooper is likely to replace Leonardo DiCaprio in the upcoming Del Toro film -- the story in no way insinuates that Leo will circle back to the PTA project that was previously passed on, but it's still a considerable development.
