Watch ‘The Master' Parody Vid; Pre-Order Paul F. Tompkins LP Now

You'll remember a few months ago that we posted a very funny bit from comedian Paul F. Tompkins called The Rules Of Daniel Day Lewis in which Tompkins described his brief time with the actor filming "There Will Be Blood." We also mentioned that having been at the taping of his new stand-up album in Brooklyn last year, he had another PTA-related bit about being seated next to Tom Cruise at the "Magnolia" table read. While that bit wasn't included in the broadcast version, it is on the album "Laboring Under Delusions" which is presented "unedited" and you can order now for just $10. The album cover is also amazing.

In completely unrelated but still comedic news, the first parody of "The Master" has arrived on YouTube and it's pretty good. Watch it below (via Grantland):

‘The Rules Of Daniel Day Lewis' By Paul F. Tompkins

We caught very funny comedian/podcaster/"There Will Be Blood" cameo-maker Paul F. Tompkins a few months back taping his comedy album at the beautiful Bell House in Brookyln. While the comedian had countless hilarious bits, two should be of particular interest to Cigs&Vines readers. One was an extended anecdote about a table read for "Magnolia" where he was seated next to the biggest movie star in the world while the other features Tompkins talking about briefly sharing the screen with Daniel Day Lewis as Prescott in 'TWBB' (which you can watch a preview of below).

Tompkins was kind enough to reach out to the site and let us know that his new comedy special "Laboring Under Delusions" airs tomorrow night, Saturday at 11pm on Comedy Central. If you like the special you can also purchase it at Amazon for just $9.99 which includes stuff not in the broadcast version (like his hilarious "Magnolia" table read story.) Tompkins also performs a regular show at Largo, tapes a very funny monthly podcast (The Pod F Tompkast) and should he come to your town, it would be well worth your while to check him out.

Stay tuned to Twitter and Facebook for the latest news and updates.

A Marc Maron Mention with Paul F. Tompkins

Apologies for the alliteration but just a small bit of non-news while we wait for word on "The Master" and "Inherent Vice". On a recent episode of Marc Maron's WTF podcast, Maron interviews comedian (and friend to PTA), Paul F. Tompkins. You may also remember Tompkins briefly as Prescott in "There Will Be Blood" and as an offscreen voice during Seduce & Destroy. The hour+ long interview is a candid and hilarious discussion between the two comedians which briefly turns to his work with Paul.
MM: What's your relationship with Paul Thomas Anderson?

PFT: I haven't seen Paul in a while...

MM: ...the director of There Will Be Blood.

PFT: That's right. I have not seen him since then.

MM: Did you do another movie? You've sort of shown up in most of his movies.

PFT: Magnolia. I did what ended up being just a voice in Magnolia. And that was it. But he's a guy that I have known off and on through Largo, the old nightclub Largo. And he started coming to Largo around the time that comedy started happening at Largo. It had been open for about a year and it was just a music club and then they started doing comedy on Monday nights. And then all the comics and the musicians started to get to know each other and appear on each others shows.
If you haven't listened to the WTF podcast or Paul F. Tompkins own hilariously weird Pod F. Tompkast, you really should.

In other news, did you know that Amazon recently put Blu-rays for "Magnolia" and "Boogie Nights" on sale for $9.49 and $12.99? It's true. So if you were looking to upgrade those old DVD's, now might be a good time for that. They are magnificent.
