Production Begins On PTA's High School Film - Working Title & Set Photos Revealed

Production has quietly gotten underway on Paul Thomas Anderson's 9th feature film in Encino, California and Bradley Cooper is indeed one of the stars:

The project, while still formally untitled, is operating under a working title of Soggy Bottom.

The Film Stage reports (here and here) that Cooper's role is likely that of a producer-or-director who takes a shine to the child-actor-high-school-student around which the movie centers.

Reportedly, at least one Haim collaborator has been on set for the flick as well so far.

A couple more on-set peripherals can be seen below the fold, though nothing too spoiler-y in nature:

Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly and safely for the production, and we will do our best to get news posted here in real time as it occurs. Frankly, this is all coming together much faster than we anticipated given, y'know... everything.

The prospect of a new major motion picture from Paul Thomas Anderson being on the horizon can hopefully provide us some solace through this difficult stretch!

Be good, be well.

Bradley Cooper Circling PTA's High School Project

Bradley Cooper, Paul Thomas Anderson Teaming Up - Variety

Good afternoon! We come with news that will hopefully provide your Monday a jolt...

Per THR, PTA may have found the (/a) star for his upcoming 70s-set high school movie in...

Bradley Cooper
.

THR also reports the production is now aiming for an Autumn shoot, contingent on safety, of course.

This casting is not terribly surprising, given that there had been rumbles about a PTA/Leonardo Di Caprio collaboration in the offing, and Bradley Cooper has already replaced Leo once recently, in the very movie Leo left PTA at the altar for.

We'll see what the cat drags in over the coming days/weeks. For now, it would appear the project may be gathering steam, which is exciting to say the least!

MGM Boards PTA's High School Movie As Focus Pulls Out

Paul Thomas Anderson Returns with a 1970's High School Movie

Good Friday --

Some news trickled in over the last few days which we are regrettably late to report in on:

Per THR, Focus Features is no longer backing PTA's upcoming, as-yet-untitled high school movie due to budgetary constraints. The project has consequently moved over to MGM, but there are no further details about when it might actually take flight for obvious reasons.

The move, at the very least, confirms the film is still alive. Its road to theatres, unfortunately, remains anybody's guess.

We'll circle back when more information is made available. In the meantime, hope you're hanging in there.

Happy 50th, PTA!

Here's wishing your transition to a nice new round number is a happy and - more importantly - safe one.

The same is extended to all of our readers.

We regret the radio silence over the last several months but are sincerely hoping for your wellness (physical and mental) during this period and hope that the near future sees the beginning of the end of systemic racism and injustice, the beginning of the end of coronavirus, and the return to moviemaking of all stripes -- in that order.

As a former mayor of Cincinnati once said, take care of yourselves and each other.
